I also have a laptop I use for gaming when away from home. I spend a lot of time at work waiting for my carpool ride (wife) to pick me up. Anywhere from 2-4 hours 3 times a week. I live an hour from work and so does she. Gas is expensive. I recommend this laptop very highly! It is amazing. Came with a 1TB HDD but has 2 bays so I can upgrade later. Has a 970GTX and 16GB of RAM. Very solid.

I assembled a new system back in March:

Intel Core i5 4690k (Not an i7 as I was building a gaming system and hyperthreading does not benefit gaming. Same goes for core count, no reason to go over 4 cores for gaming atm. Saved a few bucks)
Noctua NH-U14S HSF (probably unnecessary as the wattage of the cpu is low and not doing much OC'ing)
Team Xtreme 16GB DDR3 2400 (originally did 32GB, but system wasn't stable, sold other 16GB)
ASUS Z97-A (Have never used anything but ASUS for motherboards)

GIGABYTE GTX 970 4GB (Want to put in a second one after playing ARK)
AOC G2460PG 24" 144hz G-Sync (expensive, but worth it since I am able to see the difference between 60hz and higher, and the G-Sync means no tearing and no framerate drops. I love this thing)

SAMSUNG 850 EVO 500GB (should have gone with 1TB)
WD Green 4TB (still 99% empty)

SeaSonic X-850 PSU (could have gone lower wattage, but wanted room for possible SLI)
Rosewill THOR V2 Full Tower (big black obelisk looking thing, no windows (hate windows), and cheap)

Corsair K95 RGB Mechanical Keyboard (Cheery MX Brown) (entirely unnecessary, but my Logitech G15 is on the opposite side of the continent)
Logitech G502 Mouse (great mouse, don't like thumb button arrangement, the "sniper" button is great for on the fly sensitivity changes)
Logitech Z906 5.1 500W RMS Speakers (bought from a buddy for $300, new prices online were about $500 to $550 incl tax and shipping)

Windows 8.1 64bit

I believe I have the same set of 12 year old Logitech 5.1 speakers as Vertisce. The Z-640's, awesome speakers for the price back before Logitech started cheaping out on their speakers. I used these on my old system and would have kept them for this system, but they are on the other side of the continent along with my keyboard and the rest of my old system.
