So, for the past few days I've been juggling between two different processors, doing research and looking up benchmarks on them, but I always get varied answers. The two processors are the AMD Ryzen 5 1500x and the Intel I5-7500. I want as much performance as possible at great quality (Medium-to-High; mixed settings depending on the game) from games such as ARK, Battlefield 1, Space Engineers, Empyrion, ARMA 3, etc. I guess since I mentioned performance, I should probably mention the card I've decided to choose, the Radeon RX 580 8gb. I'm just trying to get as many opinions as possible. If anyone has any other suggestions to anything else, feel free to put those.

What's your budget and the rest of your system build look like? Without knowing anything else, I would say that the 1500x is a no-brainer. Unless you literally only use your computer for gaming.

I won't be doing any rendering/photo editing, but I'll have Chrome out while gaming or other things, general multi-tasking really. My budget is around $680-$730, which is within range here:

i would get the i5 and a gtx 1060 if you want real performance. the ryzen's are more a workstation cpu than gaming. amd will never be able to match intel core for core. thats just my opinion though.

I second Otroud, but again, it's personal opinion.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I think I'll go with the Ryzen 5 1500x, unless everything goes perfect this summer and in that case I'll opt for the i7-6700k or the 7700k with a 1070.

With a 580 he isn't really going to be looking at any sort of CPU bottlenecks in any sort of situations.

The 580 is a better card than the 1060, and supports free sync.
